Barbecue restaurant Smokebelly has closed and a new concept has already been announced to take its place.
The eatery — which was scheduled to close this weekend after the Super Bowl — instead closed this past weekend at 128 E. Andrews Drive, Tomorrow’s News Today first reported.
Tory Bartlett, CEO of Southern Hospitality — which owns Smokebelly as well as Tin Lizzy’s, Big Ketch Saltwater Grill, Milton’s Cuisine and Cocktails, Gypsy Kitchen, The Southern Gentleman, The Blind Pig Parlour Bar and Beni’s Cubano — said a Baja Mexican concept will open in the space in early spring.
He also said there are plans to reopen Smokebelly in another location in the future.
Smokebelly opened in 2014 and served barbecue inspired by multiple regions of the country as well as beer and specialty cocktails.
