Burgers

The Big Braut Burger is one of the offerings at Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar during Avalon Restaurant Week (Oct. 14-21), which features special prix fixe menus from several restaurants.

In the days ahead, food lovers can sample a plethora of discounted fare in Alpharetta.

Avalon Restaurant Week kicks off this Saturday and runs through Oct. 21. Ten Avalon eateries will be offering prix fixe menus at $15, $25 or $35 for lunch and dinner.

Participating restaurants include Antico, Brine Seafood Shack, Kona Grill, CRU Wine Bar, Branch & Barrel, Ted’s Montana Grill, Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar, Café Intermezzo, Colletta and Oak Steakhouse.

(Not all restaurants are offering both lunch and dinner deals, so check menus online at experienceavalon.com before you head out. Prices are per person, excluding alcohol, tax and gratuity).

Here are highlights of what’s in store during Avalon Restaurant Week:

Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar
One of the few restaurants offering lunch and dinner menus during Avalon Restaurant Week, Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar is the ideal spot for kicking back on a patio (this outdoor seating downstairs and on the rooftop), sipping craft brews and noshing on locally-sourced dishes that take pub fare up a notch. Stop by for the $15, two-course lunch and choose from three options per course. The garden tots make for a solid starter—crispy little wheels of broccoli, cheese and potato with a fragrant rosemary crème fraiche for dipping. For your main dish, try the Big Braut Burger, a grilled pork bratwurst topped with caramelized onion, melted Swiss and Russian dressing on a buttered bun.

Branch & Barrel
A fall-driven $25 prix fixe menu will be showcased at Chef Todd Hogan’s Branch & Barrel, offering a set three courses of hearty, belly-warming dishes. Butternut squash and walnut goat cheese popovers are wrapped in soft pastry shells for a nutty, warm bite to start things off. The second course offers an arugula salad topped with warmed local brie and fig, drizzled with a honey vinaigrette. The finale is a tender pork tenderloin scallopini in an apricot brandy cream, served with local mushrooms and gingered sweet potato brulee for a dish that’s subtly sweet, earthy and comforting all at once.

Brine Seafood Shack
Don’t miss the $35 dinner menu at Brine Seafood Shack, which is serving up a three-course meal of seafood with multiple options for each course. Start with classic staples like the clam chowder or the hush puppies with sorghum butter. For your second course, keep it simple with the low country boil that offers shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes in a broth that packs some heat. Finish with the mini key lime pie. Coastal décor and a casual dining room create a low-key experience to enjoy it all.

Colletta
The cuisine of northern Italy influences the fare at modern Italian restaurant Colletta, which is offering a three-course, $35 dinner menu with plenty of variety thanks to three options for the first two courses and two choices for dessert. Order the crowd-pleasing meatballs (a mix of pork and beef in tomato sauce and served with polenta) to whet your appetite. Then move on to the chicken Parmesan that mixes up the classic dish with provolone cheese and garlic crema. Complete your Italian feast with decadent zeppole—doughnut bites with a creamy Nutella sauce and toasted hazelnuts.

TIP: If you plan on visiting more than one restaurant throughout the week, be sure to pick up a “Taste the Experience Restaurant Tour Card” at the concierge booth before you start. Get your card stamped during each visit, and turn it in to the concierge when you have received three or more stamps for a chance to win an Avalon Experience Prize Package that includes brunch for two at CRU, gift cards to Branch & Barrel, Kona Grill and Ted’s Montana Grill, an Avalon wine bag with Avalon wine, and Veranda at Avalon wine cups for to-go wine and a Visa gift card.
