Less than a month after the unexpected death of 8Arm co- founder and chef Angus Brown, the Poncey-Highland restaurant is moving ahead with some big plans.
Starting today, the spot, located at 710 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE, is opening its outdoor bar and covered patio, launching its beverage program and late night menu, and adding seating to its adjoining coffee shop, which will now be separate from the full-service restaurant itself.
Guests will have the option to dine outside and order drinks at the walk-up bar, a renovated shipping container. A mural by Atlanta-based artist Adrian Barzaga will line the patio walls. The beverage program will be led by Joshua Fryer, formerly of The Lawrence, and Tim Faulkner, formerly of Lusca restaurant, and will feature craft cocktails, beer, and a wine selection by Tim Willard (also formerly of Lusca). Other former Lusca team members joining 8Arm include Wilson Gourley, who will be heading brunch service with pastry chef Sarah Dodge, and Keith Remes, who will be overseeing dinner service.
Starting at 10 p.m., 8ARM’s late night menu will offer dishes including a lobster roll and the burger formerly served at Lusca. The extended hours will cater to those working in the service industry, similar to the hours of sister restaurant Octopus Bar in East Atlanta.
Beyond 8Arm’s news, Brown’s business partner Nhan Le announced intentions to move forward with AMA, a 45-seat, walk-in-only restaurant located inside Paris on Ponce with open access to the Atlanta Beltline. The eatery is on track to open this summer. The focal point of the fourth project from Le and Brown will be a raw bar and wood-fired grill with a menu highlighting seafood- and vegetable-driven plates. AMA will also be open late and will feature a drink list of small-production wines, craft beers, and classic cocktails.
