Most of us approach The Cook’s Warehouse the way a child goes to a pet store. We stroke all the candy-colored Le Creusets and Staubs and just yearn.
Yes, this local chain is full of posh kitchen gear but there are inexpensive goodies to be found—and stuffed into your loved ones’ stockings. Try one of these Georgia-produced jars of deliciousness or a gadget that will make your giftee’s wine bottles more adorable.
This is a brightly-colored, very stylish silicon-and-stainless steel bird that you plunk into your wine bottle. Pour and the little guy warbles. It’s the most charming liquid dispenser since the Gurgle Pot, a fish-shaped pitcher that, yup, gurgles with every pour. Both melodious gadgets were conceived by the same inventor, Matt Ellison. $24.99.
Mojo Villajos All Purpose Sauce
This earthy garlic-and-pepper sauce is coarse enough that it almost seems like a chutney, and it’s a spicy chameleon indeed. It’s highly dippable, mixed with say cream cheese, sour cream or hummus. It also dances beautifully with sandwiches, rice and beans, or even scrambled eggs. With its clean, minimal ingredients—olive oil, garlic, vinegar, red chili peppers, spices, salt and that’s it—you can feel good putting it on just about everything. It’s made in Decatur. $9.99 for 8.5 oz.
Wisham Jellies—Peachy Peach Pepper Jelly
The Tifton-based Wisham Jellies combines hot peppers with a variety of fruit from blueberry to pineapple to mango. We sampled the “Peachy Peach Pepper Jelly” and immediately wished (see what we did there?) for some charry, smoky pork to eat with it. The jelly’s bright, summery sweetness, shot through with jalapeno and habanero heat, is just perfect for glazing grilled meat. The jar label also suggests mixing it with teriyaki sauce and Worcestershire for a lamb marinade. Brilliant. $6.99 for 9 oz.
