When Halloween season rolls around, I always think of this little childhood joke-medley, Trick or treat / smell my feet / give me something good to eat. Despite warnings from our parents, my friends and I, dressed in our best super hero or ghoulish costumes, sang the song as we knocked on our neighbors’ doors for candy. Sometimes the song was a murmur, but when someone tossed a handful of candy corn in our pumpkin-shaped pails, we sang outrageously loud because candy corn was (and is still) only fit for the garbage.
