Dish of the Week: Squash Blossoms at Storico Fresco Alimentari e Ristorante in Buckhead

Billed as “a one stop shop for everything traditional Italian,” chef and sommelier Mike Patrick opened Storico Fresco Alimentari e Ristorante in Buckhead in June.

Patrick may be best known for his meticulously handmade fresh pastas based on classic recipes. But the Storico menu takes in the full range of Italian dining, from antipasti to primi to secondi, and even desserts. And for me, every meal must start with the simple and utterly delicious fried squash blossoms.

They are delicately crisp and oozing with a creamy blend of ricotta and Mozzarella di Bufala Campana. Served two to an order for $9, wrapped in a cone of butcher paper, they are finger food at its finest.

“Squash blossoms, either fried plain, stuffed with mozzarella, or the addition of anchovy, are eaten in Italy in any region that zucchini or other summer squash are grown — which is almost everywhere,” Patrick explains.

You can find them at Storico through August.
